"IF PLANTS COULD TALK" Middlesex Countys Agricultural Agent Bill Hlubik, of Rutgers Cooperative Research & Extension, and his team of collaborators, have won first place in the NACAAs (National Association of County Agricultural Agents) Annual Communications Awards Video Category. The award was received for an episode of IF PLANTS COULD TALK, which features a trip to the world famous Longwood Gardens. Their entry was judged the national winner out of a group of 12 national finalists from across the country. The video category is one of 13 different categories of communications in which members may enter. National winners receive $500 awards and national finalists receive $250 awards. The awards are sponsored by the Bayer Advanced Corporation, Crop Science Division. In 2005, the team was a regional finalist.
The show has been running for 6 years on NJN Public Television and is the only show on gardening in New Jersey that can be viewed statewide. The programs mission is to offer research-based information in the areas of gardening, landscaping and agriculture to the public, while visiting some of the most scenic places in the Garden State.
The upcoming episode of IF PLANTS COULD TALK airs on Sat. June 17th at 1:00 PM on NJN Public Television, (although its regular slot is the first Saturday of each month).

Eagle Scout Organizes Project to "Prepare" Watercraft for Busy Season at Camp Hoover "Be Prepared" is the timeless
motto of the Boy Scouts and Ryan Koenigsknecht, a high school junior and
member of Boy Scout Troop 184 of River Edge, NJ completed a portion of
his Eagle Scout project at Camp Lou Henry Hoover preparing the watercraft
for the Girl Scout Camp. Camp Hoover is a residential Girl Scout Camp,
located in Middleville, NJ (Near Newton) and is part of the Girl Scouts
of Washington Rock Council.
Ryan and 21 other volunteers met at the Camp Hoover waterfront to work on repairing the sailboats and refinishing boating equipment. With sanders and paint brushes in hand the volunteers, under Ryan's watchful eye, completed this huge project. They repaired eight sailboats, refinished 20 canoe paddles, four pairs of rowboat oars, and numerous rudders and centerboards for the sailboats.
Camp Lou Henry Hoover provides a wide variety of camping opportunities for Girl and Boy Scouts, family groups and anyone interested in spending time in the outdoors. To find out more information about the programs available, visit our website at www.camphoover.org or all 908-232-3236 ext. 1213 to speak with the camp registrar.
