JULY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

TUES 4 - INDEPENDENCE DAY - Celebrate America!

WED 5 - "Mammal Mania" - Children's Summer Reading program at the South Plainfield Public Library at 6:30PM. It will feature mammals from around the world and give details about them. This is the first of two Summer Reading events for children. (The other is 7/17) Both programs are for children age 4 and over; they're presented free of charge, but pre-registration is required.

TUES 11 - (and every Tuesday) SOUTH PLAINFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY - OPEN FOR VISITS, 126 Jackson Avenue, Sou.th Plainfield, 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

TUES 11 - The South Plainfield Library Board of Trustees will meet at the Library at 7:30PM. Members of the public are invited to attend and get the latest information on the Library's current and future plans, including the proposed new Library building. There will also be a time for public questions and comments early in the meeting.

FRI 14 - "WHINE & CHEESE PARTY" - Benefit of Plainfield Area Humane Society (PAHS) - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Wine Country, Rt. 22 West, Greenbrook. Donation $25 per person. Reservations are required. For more information call Melodie Waters or by email at: contact.PAHS@verizon.net.

MON 17 - "SCRAPBOOKING FOR BEGINNERS" - South Plainfield Public Library , 7:00 PM. This is the second of two scrapbooking programs. Geared towards beginners, it will be taught by Dayel Giammarino of "Creative Memories". Pre-registration is required for this program. Participants are asked to bring 6 photos; there is a materials fee of $3.00, payable upon registration.

MON 17 - "The Strange World of Reptiles" Children's Summer Reading program at the South Plainfield Public Library at 6:30PM It will focus on the four main groups of reptiles and tell about them. Both programs are being conducted by NJ-based "Snakes-n-Scales and Turtle Tales", an animal educational outreach program. Both programs are for children age 4 and over; they're presented free of charge, but pre-registration is required.

THURS 20 - DEADLINE FOR AUGUST UPBEAT NEWS.

FRI 21 - "4-H NIGHT AT APPLEBEES" - Middlesex 4-H Teen Council Benefit for Project Gift at Applebees Restaurant, Rt. 18 North, East Brunswick, NJ. Mention" 4-H Teen Council" and Applebees will make a donation to Project Gift which provides no-cost "holiday shopping and wrapping services" for needy families in Middlesex County.

SAT 22 - Children's Scrapbooking Program - South Plainfield Public Library at 9AM. Dayel Giammarino of "Creative Memories" will also lead this program, where children will learn to make a "photo sharing card". Participants should bring 6-10 photos for the project. The program is for children age 8 and over; space is limited, so pre-registration is required. There is a materials fee of $8.00, payable upon registration.

THU 27 - HIGHLAND PARK SUMMER OUTDOOR CONCERT - Jazz with the Frank Lacy Quintet, 6:30 PM on the Highland Park HS lawn, FREE! Bring a blanket or folding chair. Sponsored by Bank of America, Cablevision, and the Highland Park Arts Commission. For more information call 732-819-0052.

IMPORTANT NOTICES FROM THE SOUTH PLAINFIELD LIBRARY:

The Library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. We will also be closed on Sunday throughout the summer; otherwise, we'll continue with our normal operating hours (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 10AM-9PM; Tuesday & Friday 10AM-6PM, Saturday 9AM-5PM).

The Library will also be hosting two Summer Reading programs, one for children (called "Paws, Claws, Scales & Tales") and one for adults. For more information, please call us and ask for Linda (for the children's program) or Chris (for the adult program).

Throughout July, we'll present our normal schedule of children's story programs. Storytime programs for children age 3 and over will be held on Tuesday mornings at 10:30, Wednesday evenings at 6:30, and Thursday afternoons at 1:15. "Time for 2's & 3's", for children age 2 & 3, will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30 and Thursday evening at 6:30. "Books-N-Babies", for children under age 3, will be held on Friday mornings at 10:30. No pre-registration is required.
